So, this was a really fun little experiment. Here’s the thing, this show debuted up against Lost. Being a fairly solid Lostie, I didn’t make Jericho a priority. Which, it turns out, I should have. The end of the pilot seasons ended with a cancellation. Fans were in such an uproar over the loss of their beloved show that took to heart a nice piece of the seasons finale and sent two tons of peanuts to the studio headquarters in response to their actions.
The story is this: The town of Jericho is surrounded and under attack. In the spirit of the 101st Airborne Division, who delivered the response of “Nuts” to the German commander in WW2 who had surrounded them at Bastogne, Skeet’s character delivered the same response to the leader of the group besieging Jericho. So, the moral of the story for the season finale when confronted with defeat? Nuts. Jericho fans were a dedicated bunch and let the network know it. So the network relented and brought the show back for a second season.
As soon as I heard this, I had to watch the show and be in the know. Because I’m curious that way. The season had come out on DVD and I watched it. It was a really great little show. The second season is short since the writers strike ruined the bulk of the season’s run. I’ve watched the 2nd season premiere on XBox Live, and eventually I’ll get through the other 6 episodes. I really hope the 3rd season is picked up. I’m under the impression that CBS is shopping it around, hoping to dump it on the likes of SciFi. Which makes me nervous. The last time a show I liked was shopped off the the network to SciFi…Well, let’s say the ruined it in all totality. The show? G vs. E. A brilliant little piece of TV history that deserves a post of it’s own one day.
But, as an overall review of Jericho, I give it two mushroom clouds up. Go see it if you can.
